D. Maine Art Information and Price List - Pet & Wildlife Portraiture 2022

Thank you for taking an interest in my artwork. If you'd like to commission a portrait, please send an email to info@dmaineart.com or fill out the form located here and I'll get back with you typically within a day or two.

Commissioning a portrait of a beloved companion is a fun experience for all involved! Most of my clients are surprised to learn just how much they enjoyed the process! The experience of creating a portrait can also be exceptionally healing for those who have sadly lost their cherished family member. A portrait is a wonderful way to immortalize an important member of your family.

A great portrait requires great reference material. I will require high quality photos with the proper color and plenty of detail (the greater the detail, the greater the results!). Providing high resolution images will have a direct impact on the outcome of the portrait. Feel free to send me your photos and I'll let you know in advance if it's something I can work with. Excellent reference photos = an excellent outcome!

Once we've determined the size of your piece and a detailed photo has been chosen and approved, I will require a 50% deposit in order to begin the portrait. The deposit is non-refundable unless an unlikely event prevents me from creating your piece. The balance will be due upon completion (prior to shipping).

I retain the copyright to all works commissioned by the client. No artwork may be reproduced or altered without my written consent.

Shipping and Handling
Your artwork will be carefully packaged, insured and shipped with tracking via UPS. S&H typically runs between $35.00 to $65.00 depending on the size of the piece (larger sizes may be more - but I'll always do my best to keep shipping costs as low as possible). Please inquire for international shipping. Full payment (including sales tax plus S&H), must be paid prior to shipment of artwork. Payment of import or duty for international shipments is the sole responsibility of the client. Instructions and a signed Certificate of Authenticity will be included with your commissioned piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I see additional portrait examples?
Additional portrait samples may be found under the "Portfolio" section in the navigation - along with other examples of my work. Click here to see additional pet portrait examples.

Can a person be included in a portrait?
Absolutely! I'll need to review the reference photos to determine their suitability for a drawing/portrait. Please reach out to me directly and send them to info@dmaineart.com so that we can review your photographs.

Do you offer other custom artwork besides pet portraits?

I do! Please see the Portfolio section in the navigation bar above and choose between the various mediums listed in the drop down menu.

Can a portrait be created even if the subject is deceased?
As long as you have one or two quality photos that we can use for reference, yes, a portrait can be created of a deceased loved one.

How long does a portrait take to complete?
An 8" x 8" portrait takes approximately 60+ hours to complete. The number of hours it takes to create a portrait increases significantly with the size of the piece. For example, a typical 16" x 20" can take 200 or more hours.

How do I get started?
Please reach out to me via email at info@dmaineart.com with your contact information and any questions you might have and I'll get right back with you (typically within a day or so). I also have a presence on Facebook and may be reached through fb messenger as well as through Instagram messenger.

What types of photos are best?
Professionally shot photos are wonderful - as well as photos taken with a quality DSLR camera - or even a newer, quality camera phone. Please see "Photography Tips" listed below. Anyone can take a great photo today - the key is to get nice, clear close-ups of the subject.

Is framing available?
I offer framing on a case-by-case basis. Please let me know if you're interested in having your portrait framed.

How do I make my deposit?
I accept Venmo and Paypal or you can pay your deposit by check. Please contact me at info@dmaineart.com for information.

Photography Tips
Using a quality SLR camera for the highest resolution and detailed images is preferable; however, sometimes a quality camera phone will work, too.

Outdoor, natural light is preferred over indoors. Eye level images that are fully in focus without the dreaded "flash" in the subject's eyes work best. Please don't crop or edit any of the photos you take - send original format only. Any alterations you make will decrease the size and resolution of the image. Please send the images to info@dmaineart.com. If the photos are too large to send via standard email (over 9 MB), please contact me so that we can send them through Hightail or other online services.
